Age-based teams

Monterey Bay Rugby Association aims to offer opportunities for the following age groups.

U8: 7 or younger on 9/1/2025 (non-contact)

U10: 9 or younger on 9/1/2025 (tackle)

U12: 11 or younger on 9/1/2025 (tackle)

Middle School - 6th, 7th, 8th Grades

High School - 9th-12th Grade

Youth ages 10 and under will participate as co-ed or all-gender teams. In the event that enrollment is low for U12, these teams will also participate as co-ed or all-gender teams.

Age groups are determined by the child’s age as of September 1st, 2025.

What to Expect

Each team will practice twice per week beginning early December 2025.

Each competition day is played in a round robin tournament format.  At lower levels there will not be scrums and lineouts, simply play freely and open rugby. 

Schedule

Practices will begin in early December 2025.

Competitions will be held on weekends from January 4th through March 7th.

Additional fundraisers and social events will be held throughout the year.

Registration

All players will need to register & pay dues on Rugby Xplorer.

Gear

All players will need

  • rugby boots/ cleats with plastic spikes. No metal spikes are allowed

  • a mouthguard

  • water bottle

  • recommended, but not required: N Pro Scrum Cap
